Hats Off! to Heather Bell Adams of Raleigh whose independent scholar paper, "Nature in Ron Rash's Burning Bright," has been accepted by the American Comparative Literature Association. Heather will present the paper at the ACLA annual meeting March 7-10 at Georgetown University. Also, her short story "Three Clicks" was a finalist for the 2018 Ron Rash Award in Fiction and will appear in Broad River Review's upcoming issue.

Hats Off! to Gina Malone, who took Second Place in the 2018-2019 Ruth Moose Flash Fiction Contest with her story "Table Talk." This contest was sponsored by the Charlotte Writers' Club. Gina won $75.00. Wiley Cash was the final judge. "Table Talk spoke to me because the author was able to cram so much of the man's (and woman's) life into 500 words," Cash said. "The writer, much like Alice Munro, steers clear of easy sympathy by relying on relevant details and character traits. This not a story that sets out to surprise; this is a story that sets out to resonate, which it does."

Hats Off! to Sally Thomas whose book-length poetry manuscript, Motherland, was a finalist for the 2018 Able Muse Book Award and is forthcoming in 2019 from Able Muse Press.
