The Boy Detective & The Summer of '74 and Other Tales of Suspense by Art Taylor
“One of the most distinguished short-story writers of his generation.”
—Janet Hutchings, Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine
“If there’s a Raymond Carver of short crime fiction, Art Taylor would be him—but, you know, without the chain smoking and boozing.”
— Keith Rawson, LitReactor
The Boy Detective & The Summer of ’74 and Other Tales of Suspense features sixteen stories which have collectively earned an Edgar Award, an Anthony Award, three Agatha Awards, three Macavity Awards, and three Derringer Awards. From his first story for Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine in 1995 to his latest for Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine—the title story, twenty-five years in the making—this collection charts the development of Art Taylor’s career so far… and turns the page toward more stories still ahead.
In addition to his short fiction, Art Taylor is the author of On the Road with Del & Louise: A Novel in Stories, winner of the Agatha Award for Best First Novel. As editor of Murder Under the Oaks: Bouchercon Anthology 2015, he won the Anthony Award for Best Anthology or Collection. A native of Richlands, North Carolina, he is now an associate professor of English at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, where he lives with his wife, author Tara Laskowski, and their son Dashiell.
