Red Plank House by Brenda Kay Ledford
"Brenda Kay Ledford seems to have found her literary voice tucked in the thickets of nature. Whether her poetic verse embraces the nestled doe burrowed in the brush or in the soft dance of the sunflowers while celebrating the birth of a nation, as in 'July,' her songs of nature flow flawlessly in the music of poetry."
—Patricia Ann Mayorga, Editor-in-Chief, Poets' Espresso Review
"Reading these poems I couldn't help but feel as if I too had transported to Shewbird Mountain, to a place of majestic beauty, of tumbling waterfalls, and patchwork quilts, mountain ministers and apple orchards. I heartily recommend you take a visit there as well."
—Evan Miller, Senior Editor, Guideposts
"Brenda Kay Ledford’s poetry draws you into Appalachia. You see wildflowers, gardens, children in homemade clothes, and hard-working people who kept the faith. We feel present in the home where she grew up eating apple butter, dried stack cakes, and enjoying family. This award-winning poet has delivered her best poetry book ever, Red Plank House."
— Glenda C. Beall, NCWN-West Program Coordinator and Director of Writers Circle Around the Table
