Hats Off! to Lenard D. Moore of Wake County who was appointed to the North Carolina Awards Committee by governor Pat McCrory. The purpose of the committee is to advise the Secretary of Cultural Resources on forming and administering programs of North Carolina Awards and on selection of committees to select annual recipients. Moore is Assistant Professor of English at Mount Olive College and a poet, essayist, writer, and playwright. He was a 2014 recipient of the North Carolina Award for Literature.


Hats Off! to Charisse Coleman whose personal essay "Riding Shotgun" recently received the Editor's Reprint Award from Sequestrum magazine. The essay, originally published in Passages North, is now live on the Sequestrum site, along with an author interview.


Hats Off! to Robert Beatty: the first chapter of his new novel Serafina and the Black Cloak is running in serial in The Laurel of Asheville. Robert will lead the fiction workshop "Writing Middle Grade Fiction" at the NCWN 2015 Fall Conference, November 20-22 in Asheville.
