A Writing Residency with Pat Schneider
This Summer Residency is over, but we have left this information on the website so that you can refer to it as a model of our summer residency courses.
July 10 - 14, 2005
Pat will offer two sessions:
- A one-day session on Sunday, July 10 (enrollment limited to 60).
- A four-day intensive residential writing workshop, Monday-Thursday (July 11-14, limited to 15 students. (Session II workshop participants will also participate in Session I on Sunday.)
Pat finds her theme for the week in Emily Dickinson's words:
Silence is all we dread.
There's Ransom in a Voice -
"The sessions are fun; there is a good amount of laughter and also many moments of personal revelation that are deeply moving. Because each person is free to choose not to read, there is a great freedom from pressure, and that results in wide and deep participation."- Pat Schneider
Session I: Sunday, July 10, 1 - 5 pm
The Sunday session will open with a keynote by Pat, called "Ransom in a Voice." Following the address she will show the award-winning documentary film, Tell Me Something I Can't Forget, that demonstrates her writing workshop model. After the screening, Pat will offer the group a writing session. There will be breakout groups for readings and response. Optional dinner after the session. Session limited to 60 students, first come, first served.
Session II: Monday, July 11-Thursday, July 14
Pat will offer a four-day writing workshop limited to 15 writers (first come, first served). The group will meet Monday-Thursday for four hours each morning and then break for lunch. In the afternoon, members of the class will meet individually with Pat to discuss writing ideas and/or a pre-submitted writing excerpt. (Details upon enrollment.)
After dinner on campus, there will be presentations by guest writers and an open mic session for participants. Workshop participants will live in double occupancy rooms on the lovely Peace College campus.
